Jiang Chao, a 33-year-old Party member and native mariner in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, has been helping with the prevention and control of the coronavirus in recent days.
Every day, Jiang goes to an inspection station at a designated residential quarter and stands guard from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm. His job at the station is to take temperatures of residents who enter or exit the quarter and register their information through a mobile app.
"As a Party member, it is my duty to guard locals," said Jiang. "Meanwhile, as a father of two kids, I always clean myself and my clothes as soon as possible, in an effort to protect them from the virus."
Jiang started working as a mariner in 2008 after he graduated from the local marine vocational school. Over the past few years, he has participated in two rescues at sea and saved six people.
"When I saw people drowning at sea, I knew that I had to do something to save them," said Jiang. "A human life is the most valuable thing in the world."
