A key laboratory in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, was recently awarded the provincial title of "excellent lab" and 600,000 yuan ($85,950) in bonuses for its achievements over the past few years by the Science Technology Department of Zhejiang province.

The lab mainly focuses on the processing of marine products and the detection and assessment of chemical pollutants and pathogenic microorganisms in marine products, among other things.

After several years of development, it has become a leading force in China for the study of health hazards in marine products. The lab is the only municipally-owned provincial research institution in Zhoushan.

In recent years, the city has been striving to promote the development of sci-tech innovation platforms and bring in more research talents, officials said.
