Chen Fagen, an 80-year-old Party member and retired electrical technician, has been working at a hotel in Liuheng town, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, in recent days to help in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.

The hotel was requisitioned by the local government and transformed into a temporary medical observation center on Jan 24 to quarantine suspected coronavirus cases.

"Although I'm 80 years old, I’m still in good health. I believe there is something I can do to help prevent and control the epidemic," Chen said. "So I applied to work on the frontlines."

According to Chen, he is currently in charge of the hotel's electrical system and will carry out regular inspections every day.

"Chen Fagen has worked for the hotel for several years. He is very conscientious and knows this place very well," said Chen Feng, ex-general manager of the hotel.
