The Zhoushan municipal government chartered a high-speed train and 38 buses to retrieve a total of 789 employees at Zhoushan-based companies from the city of Fuyang, Anhui province on Feb 25.

In order to protect the employees from the COVID-19 epidemic, the city government prepared face masks and disinfectants for them.

The employees first took the chartered train to Ningbo, a prefecture-level city near Zhoushan, and then traveled to Zhoushan by bus. After over seven hours of travel, they finally arrived in Zhoushan, where they were received by their employers and representatives from local government departments, treated with hot food and drinks, and finally brought back to their accommodations.

“Finally, my family and I are back in Zhoushan,” said Lyv Rong, who works in the city. “My wife and I have been working in this city for 10 years. This time, we brought our two sons with us.”

According to local authorities, there are currently about 29,000 migrant workers from Fuyang in Zhoushan, accounting for the highest proportion of migrant workers in the city. Therefore, the Zhoushan municipal government decided to charter vehicles to help Fuyang natives who were unable to return to work.

“Every employee who returned to Zhoushan has been quarantined for 14 days and were required to present a green health QR code before getting on the chartered train,” said Yu Libin, deputy director of the city’s bureau of human resources and social security. “A green code means you have little chance of having been infected.”
