Zhoushan volunteers deliver meals to children of anti-virus workers

Updated : 2020-02-21 (chinadaily.com.cn)

A team of volunteers has been formed in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, to help deliver meals to the children of medics and community workers who are engaged in the anti-virus fight.

Zhoushan authorities hope this will ease the emotional burden on medics who have no time to cook for their children.

The menu is prepared by a local catering company.

"I am a community worker, and my husband is a doctor. We are so busy that we often don't go home until 8 or 9 pm," said a mother surnamed Zhong.

"My son is in second grade. Since we have no time to cook for him, it became difficult to feed him lunch on time," Zhong added.

She said that she was touched by the volunteers willing to help her. "It gives me more time and energy to devote to my work," she said.

According to Cao Xingti, one of the volunteers, only people who had not recently traveled outside Zhoushan and who had no recent records of fever were allowed to become volunteers.

"We will keep doing this (delivering meals to children) until the start of school," Cao said, adding that the medics are working hard to fight the epidemic and deserve such services.
