Government employee cares for local seniors during fight against COVID-19

Lin Jie, a former serviceman and current government employee in Huaniao village, Shengsi county, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, has been dedicated to the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic in recent days.

After the outbreak of the virus, Lin was required to carry out regular inspections and disinfection, as well as teach locals how to protect themselves from the virus.

According to Lin, of all the things to worry about during the fight against the virus, what he worries about most is the local seniors.

Lin said that the residents in the village are all seniors, most of whom are over the age of 80, making it a real old people's village. Four seniors even live on their own, as they have no family.

Lin has been delivering food supplies, including dumplings, vegetables, rice and oil, to the seniors since Jan 24.

For the convenience of the seniors, Lin gave them his cellphone number and told them that they can call him for help at any time.

Lin Yongli, a senior undergoing home-based medical observation, has asked Lin Jie for help several times. Lin Jie picked vegetables and bought drugs to the ailing senior.

"Every day, I receive calls from local seniors. I usually drop everything I'm doing to help them –  it is my duty as a public servant and member of the Communist Party of China," said Lin Jie.
