Zhoushan will hold a series of cultural and tourism events in celebrate of Spring Festival, according to the city's bureau of culture, radio, film, television, tourism and sports.
2020 marks the Year of the Rat, the first day of which falls on Jan 25, according to the Chinese lunar calendar.
From Jan 24 to Feb 14, there will be a book exhibition at the Putuo Library in Putuo district, showcasing more than 800 books which can be borrowed for free.
From Jan 27 to Feb 9, the Zhoushan Library will hold several activities to promote its collections. An exhibition spotlighting local traditional customs surrounding Spring Festival will be held at the exhibition hall of the library from Feb 1 to 10.
The city plans to organize a trip to the Zhoushan Hall of Fame for students at local primary and middle schools around Feb 2.
In addition, a number of garden parties will be held in all of the city's districts and counties in celebration of the Chinese Lantern Festival, which falls on Feb 8, the 15th day of the Chinese Lunar New Year.
Putuo district will arrange a hike on Mount Putuo, a renowned tourist destination and one of the four sacred mountains of Chinese Buddhism, on Feb 8.
There will also be several competitions in the city to liven up the festive atmosphere, including a five-on-five football game on Jan 29-30, a Chinese chess competition on Feb 1-2, and a children's weiqi competition on Feb 4-7.
Weiqi, also known as the game of Go, is a traditional board game with over 2,500 years of history. The standard weiqi board has 361 crosses.
