A total of 10,764 university graduates found jobs in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province in 2019, according to official data.
Among the graduates, 345 had a master's degree, a year-on-year increase of about 200 percent, while 97 had a doctoral degree, up approximately 100 percent year-on-year.
"In recent years, our company has been soundly developed, relying on the city's efforts to attract more talents," said Xu Qiuping, the personnel manager of a Zhoushan-based company focusing on the manufacturing and marketing of preservation equipment. "Last year, our company employed several university graduates with a master's or doctoral degree."
"Zhoushan is a good choice for me because it provides considerable subsidies and good public rental housing services to university graduates," said Sun Xiaowei, a master's degree holder who found a job in the city last year.
Zhoushan has been striving to build itself into an attractive job destination in recent years.
In 2019, the city implemented a series of new policies seeking to attract and train more talents, especially university graduates.
It also built two enclaves for talent introduction and project promotion in the cities of Hangzhou and Shanghai.
Officials at the Zhoushan municipal government visited a number of key universities to promote the city during the same period.
"This year, we will try our best to attract more university graduates to work and start their businesses in the city," said an official of the municipal Party committee in charge of attracting talents, "University graduates can get up to 900 yuan ($131.2) in job subsidies per month in the first five years when they work in Zhoushan."
