A base in China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, was selected among the list of the third batch of national demonstration bases for the emergency industry in China.

The list was jointly issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology on Jan 8.

Zhejiang FTZ, which covers an area of about 120 square kilometers, is a center for bulk commodity trading, high-end equipment, and maritime services, among other things.

The recently designated national demonstration base mainly focuses on emergency security for hazardous chemical substances, including oil and natural gas.

The base currently has a total of 30 enterprises engaged in emergency equipment manufacturing, marine monitoring, and several other areas.

The base is an important part of the oil and natural gas industrial chain in Zhejiang FTZ and can help improve the city's ability to deal with emergency situations, said an official at the Zhoushan municipal bureau of economy and information technology.

The city has invited a number of experts to formulate development plans for the base and carry out relevant research.
