A series of calligraphy giveaway activities marking the upcoming Spring Festival were held in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province on Jan 9.

Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year, which falls on Jan 25 this year, celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese lunar calendar.

Different groups of calligraphers were sent to several different places, including a community cultural service center in Dinghai district and cultural auditoriums in Putuo district and Daishan county, to write and give away free Spring Festival couplets and wall hangings featuring the Chinese character fu (meaning luck and happiness).
