A marine culture research center was launched at a cultural and creative park of Zhoushan Media Group in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province on Jan 1.

The center, which is the first of its kind in the city, was established and is being operated by the think tank of Zhoushan Daily.

The cultural and creative park has been striving to boost the integrated development of media and build itself into a featured cluster area for cultural and creative industries in recent years.

The think tank now has over 30 outstanding local talents, scholars and experts studying marine culture and has been cooperating with several relevant research institutes in the city.

Since the second half of 2019, the think tank has organized a series of cultural activities exploring local marine culture in the city, including a discovery tour, a seminar and a picture exhibition.

A marine culture library funded by the think tank was also launched in the park on the same day.

A total of 21 members at the think tank have donated nearly 300 books about marine culture to the library.

According to local authorities, the Zhoushan Library plans to purchase a batch of reference books in the future.

Zhoushan, an archipelago-based city with 1,390 islands, has a rich history and profound marine culture and played an important role in the ancient Maritime Silk Road.
