The list, which includes 99 towns and 998 villages all over the country, was compiled by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Civic Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Leading Group for Rural Affairs and the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

Dongsha, a fishery town located in northwestern Daishan county, was designated as a national famous historical and cultural town and has won a number of national and provincial titles for rural governance.

The town has built a public square promoting the elimination of corruption from government, the first of its kind in the city.

Nan'ao village in Putuo district has built five volunteer teams made up of Party members, local elites and students as well as a platform for grassroots governance.
