Zhoushan begins building first enclave in Shanghai

Construction recently began on Zhoushan's first enclave in Shanghai, which will be located in the city's Putuo district.

The project is being funded by Zhoushan's Putuo district (not to be confused with the Shanghai Putuo district) to improve scientific and technological innovation, talent introduction, investment promotion and enterprise cultivation.

According to local authorities, after put into use, the enclave will mainly focus on carrying out projects and cultivating skilled workers in the health, maritime and intelligent manufacturing industries, and help China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) negotiate with no less than 50 enterprises.

The Zhejiang FTZ, covering an area of nearly 120 square kilometers, is located in the Zhoushan Archipelago New Area and mainly focuses on bulk commodity trading, high-end equipment, and maritime services, among other things.

In 2020, 15 companies are expected to set up operations in the new enclave, and more than 10 enterprises are expected be introduced to Zhoushan through the enclave.

In recent years, several cities in Zhejiang province have built a series of enclaves and industrial parks and have deepened cooperation with Shanghai in scientific and technological innovation, talent cultivation, project promotion and industrial development.

Officials said that Putuo district in Zhoushan will give full play to its geographic advantages, natural resources and existing industries and strive to further integrate into the Yangtze River Delta Region.
