Total import and export volumes in the city of Zhoushan in Zhejiang province surged to over 116 billion ($16.5 billion) in the first 11 months of the year, reaching its record high, said local officials.

That was up 15.69 percent on the previous corresponding period, ranking it second in the province according to statistical data recently released by the Zhoushan municipal bureau of commerce.

Officials said that since the start of the year, the city's municipal government has been working on reforming and innovations in the local bunker fuel oil supply industry.

"In December, our company received comprehensive maritime services for the first time, thanks to the government's efforts," said An Xiang, deputy general manager of Sinopec Zhejiang Zhoushan Petroleum Co Ltd.

According to An, in the first 10 months of the year the company provided more than 1.4 million metric tons of bunker fuel oil to ships, accounting for one third of the total bunker fuel oil supply in China.

Wang Junhai, director of the foreign trade department at the municipal bureau of commerce, said the city's development of foreign trade businesses has remained stable and smooth this year.

Wang added that the city is aiming to get the value of annual imports and exports above 150 billion yuan in 2020.
