A base for international scientific and technological cooperation in the city of Zhoushan was recently awarded a provincial title by the Science Technology Department of Zhejiang province.

The base was jointly established by Zhejiang International Maritime College and other maritime universities in China, Ukraine and Japan in a bid to meet the developmental needs of the local maritime, logistics and high-end equipment industries, and more.

Zhejiang International Maritime College, located in Zhoushan, is a vocational school featuring maritime disciplines.

The province started to build such bases in 2012 in an effort to promote international technology transfers and deepen its scientific and technological cooperation with countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

In recent years, Zhoushan has held a series of scientific and technological forums, introduced key research and development projects, and established cooperative relationships with a number of countries, including the United States, Australia, Ukraine, Japan, Norway and Belgium.

So far, the city has built four provincial and national bases, covering such fields as aquaculture, biomedicine, marine electronic information, and logistics, among other areas.
