Yang Shenzhi, a grassroots team leader at the Zhoushan immigration inspection station, has been designated one of the best immigration inspectors in East China's Zhejiang province.

Yang was given the award awarded by the Zhejiang immigration inspection authority.

Yang has won two third-class merits and several honorable titles for his outstanding work in the inspection station over the past few decades.

According to his colleagues, he inspects more than 3,000 ships annually, accounting for nearly one-third of the work of the station.

The station inspects cross-border ships in Zhoushan and surrounding areas that cover 1,300 square kilometers. Official data show that it inspects more than 10,000 ships each year.

While inspecting ships with his teammates, Yang was always at the head of his team and led the way although the cabins were stuffy.

"It is my duty and honor to ensure the safety of the area under the jurisdiction of our inspection station," said Yang in the latest interview.

So far, he has carried out over 10 emergency rescue tasks and has arrested more than 20 criminals.
