Zhoushan holds first English-Chinese interpretation competition

The final and award ceremony of the first Zhoushan Archipelago New Area English-Chinese Interpretation Competition were held in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province on Nov 30.

A total of 10 people stood out among nearly 30 contestants in the preliminary competition, moved on to the final and competed together.

The judges pointed out mistakes of the contestants and offered advice.

Hu Yiyao, an interpreter from the administrative committee of Zhoushan Aviation Industrial Park, was ultimately crowned champion.

Two members of the Zhoushan Translators' Association and a student at the School of Foreign Languages of Zhejiang Ocean University were also recognized.

The competition aims to boost economic development and international exchange in the city, promote the city's opening up to the world, and recognize foreign language talents.

The competition was held by the Zhoushan Translators' Association and the School of Foreign Languages at Zhejiang Ocean University under the guidance of the city's municipal office of foreign affairs and the bureau of culture, radio, film, television, tourism and sports.
