A promotional conference for the Mount Putuo Scenic Area in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province was held in Quanzhou, Fujian province on Nov 28.

Over 80 representatives from enterprises and associations engaged in the culture and tourism industries in Xiamen and Quanzhou attended the conference.

Representatives from the administrative committee of the Mount Putuo Scenic Area described the scenic area's tourist and business environment to the attendees.

Mount Putuo is a renowned tourist destination and one of the four sacred mountains of Chinese Buddhism. It is believed to be the ashram of Guanyin Bodhisattva, the Buddhist goddess of mercy and compassion.

A Buddhist vegetarian banquet was held on the same day by the administrative committee in an effort to promote the culture of Mount Putuo and boost cultural exchange between Zhoushan and Quanzhou.

The banquet, attended by more than 1,800 people, is regarded as a valuable trademark of Zhoushan.

According to the administrative committee, a series of incentive policies will be issued to drive the development of cultural and tourism industries in the Mount Putuo Scenic Area.
