A forum on social management was held in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province on Nov 29.

Nearly 200 experts, scholars and government employees from all over China participated in the forum and discussed the application of science and technology in social management.

Professor Zhang Chenggang, director of the Institute for Social Governance and Development at Tsinghua University, briefed attendees on the history and development of social management and offered advice.

Social management in China should focus on the integration of modern technology and management systems, said Zhang.

Zhang also suggested that a series of multi-tier social management pilot areas should be built around the country to enhance the nation's governance ability.

Qiu Zeqi, a special term professor at Peking University, said that the digital transformation of social management requires governments to make full use of existing social management related data to identify and deal with problems.

Zhoushan signed strategic cooperation agreements with Tencent Cloud Computing (Beijing) Co and Hangzhou Tianque Technology Co, a famous e-government service provider, at the forum in a bid to enhance the city's governance ability.

Zhao Susheng, deputy general manager of Hangzhou Tianque Technology Co, said that the company is very experienced in data collecting and mining and has collected a large amount of social management related data which can help Zhoushan identify and solve potential problems in social management.
