Putuo district in Zhoushan was recently awarded a provincial title for the construction of beautiful countryside at a meeting in Tiantai county, Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province.

The meeting focused on a provincial project to renovate and beautify villages and rural areas. A total of 11 districts, counties and county-level cities in Zhejiang province won the title at the meeting.

In recent years, Putuo has been implementing the project and boosting the transformation and upgrading of the local economy, environmental management, and public services, among other things, in order to turn to improve the district's rural areas.

According to recent official data, the district now has four provincial-level demonstration towns and 12 provincial-level quality villages thanks to its efforts to build beautiful countryside.

Putuo, an island-based district, is named after Mount Putuo, one of the four sacred mountains in Chinese Buddhism.
