Seven electricians improved electrical circuits for a poor household in a village in Putuo district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province on Nov 4.

The electricians were local volunteers participating in a project to improve electrical circuits in the district.

The house, occupied by Li Weiping and his sister Li Huizhu, is in serious disrepair.

The Li family mainly depends on minimal government subsidies to get by, as both the siblings are unable to work due to disabilities and illness.

The volunteers laid four electrical cables with a total length of over 100 meters and installed several switches and sockets in the house.

On rainy days, the house's old electrical circuits would stop working, but thanks to the volunteers, the problem has been solved, said Li Weiping.

According to local authorities, the welfare project, which was jointly hosted by the Zhoushan branch of State Grid Corporation of China, the city's charity federation and the disabled persons' federation, helped 119 poor households in Zhoushan.

The state grid donated 300,000 yuan ($42,900) to the project.

"I just want to help people in need and make sure they can use electricity safely," said Miao Chengguang, a volunteer electrician in Shengsi county, Zhoushan.
