"I launched a marine aquaculture project in Zhoushan and received a great deal of support from the city's local government," said Xuan Lixin at an investment and talent introduction fair in Zhoushan on Nov 1.

Xuan, general manager of Zhejiang Shenlan Marine Technology Co Ltd, is just one of many Zhoushan natives who have traveled from other parts of the world and returned to their hometown to promote its development.

The fair, which immediately followed the opening ceremony of the 2019 World Zhoushanese Congress, called for Zhoushan natives to inject capital and introduce skilled professionals to the city.

Zhoushanese refers to anyone in the world whose hometown is Zhoushan.

Zhoushan's business environment has greatly improved in recent years, from infrastructure to policy support, said Zhou Minhua, a local government official.

According to Zhou, the city has great economic potential, with its GDP growing 8.1 percent in the first half of 2019, one percentage point higher than the provincial average.

Local authorities plan to focus on the following industries –– green petrochemicals, aviation, high-end equipment manufacturing, healthcare and logistics, added Zhou.

After the event, attendees visited a cultural park on Mount Putuo, which is currently under construction, an international healthcare industry center and a number of other key industrial areas, in order to get a fuller picture of the local business environment.
