Over 7,000 enterprises were registered in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province in the first three quarters of 2019, up 2.53 percent year-on-year, according to official data recently released by the city's bureau of statistics.

The total registered capital of the companies was nearly 117 billion yuan ($16.6 billion), a year-on-year increase of 24.44 percent.

Among the enterprises, more than 100 brought in 100 million yuan each in registered capital.

According to local authorities, Zhoushan has been working to simplify the enterprise registration process in order to improve the city's business environment.

Since last year, the Zhejiang Zhoushan Archipelago New Area Marine Industry Cluster Area has been implementing paperless enterprise registration. Those who wish to register a company can finish the application within 10 minutes, said a registration agent who works in the cluster area.

By the end of September 2019, a total of 3,510 enterprises had been registered, with an online registration rate of 99.3 percent, ranking first in Zhoushan.

The cluster area, whose establishment was approved by the State Council of China in 2011, was designated as the first national-level area to focus on marine economy.

Another well-known area, the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone, welcomed over 1,700 new enterprises registered with domestic capital in the third quarter alone, accounting for 74.43 percent of the city's total number of such enterprises.

The government plans to introduce more leading enterprises into the city in order to further bolster the local economy, said Huang Gongjie, an official in charge of company registration in the market supervision administration of the city.
