Hu Xiaowei gave a posthumous donation to a memorial hall on Dengbu Island on behalf of his father Hu Wei during a donation ceremony on Oct 30 in Putuo district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province.

Hu Wei, a major general of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in China, was born in Henan province in 1920 and died of an illness in Beijing in 2018 at the age of 98.

The donation included the general's uniforms, several medals, and 100,000 yuan ($14,200).

"My father's last wish was to donate these things to the memorial hall," said Hu Xiaowei.

Hu said that his father had fought in many wars, including the War of Chinese People's Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945).

However, a battle on Dengbu Island during the War of Liberation (1945-1949) was the one he remembered most.

Before the donation ceremony, the major general's cremains were scattered into the sea near Dengbu Island. According to general Hu's testament, he wanted to be put to rest at the place where he and his comrades had fought together.
