Chen Ming, a tourist from Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, recently came to Baisha Island in Zhoushan to spend a holiday.

Chen enjoyed sea fishing, kayaking and motor boating, among other tourism programs at the island.

"I've been here for two days and don't want to leave. The landscapes and tourism programs here are impressive," said Chen.

Baisha is known as the first island park in China to focus on sea fishing. The island is a microcosm of Zhoushan's island tourism industry.

Sea fishing is becoming more and more popular in the city and has attracted nearly 450,000 tourists since the beginning of this year.

There are hundreds of motor boats being used for sea fishing every day. In light of this fact, the city decided to invest 16 million yuan ($2.3 million) into the construction of a public dock for the boats.

Zhoushan, an island-based tourism city with 1,390 islands, has been dedicated to promoting the integration of local tourism, sports and culture and building itself into a high-quality island tourism destination in recent years, said local authorities.

In the first three quarters of 2019, the city received nearly 60 million tourists from home and abroad, up 12 percent year-on-year, bringing in over 89 million yuan of tourism revenue, up 13.75 percent year-on-year.

This year, the city has held a series of large events in order to become more popular among tourists from all over the world, such as the 21st Zhoushan International Sand Sculpture Festival, the 2019 International Islands Tourism Conference and the Donghai Music Festival.

The city will hold the 2019 Zhoushan Island Marathon on Nov 17. Participants of the competition can enjoy discounts if they travel around the city.
