An auditorium made from six shipping containers was recently built in Yangshan town in Shengsi county, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province.

The auditorium, which will mainly hold cultural activities, is expected to be officially launched at the end of October.

The auditorium covers an area of about 126 square meters and has two floors.

The first floor consists of three major areas – a rest area able to accommodate around thirty people at once, a small library offering magazines, novels and theoretical monographs, and a corridor showcasing the history and culture of the town.

The second floor, which is equipped with tables and chairs, will be mainly used as the lecture hall.

According to local authorities, Yangshan has been dedicated to cultural development in recent years.

The town initially planned to build an auditorium at the beginning of 2019 but didn't have any empty buildings, so it decided to make full use of the resources at hand and use empty shipping containers.

The town, which has rich deep-water coastal resources around Yangshan Port, consists of 90 islands and reefs.
