The Daishan Island Beach Golf Challenge was held from Oct 19 to 20 in Daishan county, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province.

The competition, which attracted more than 21 teams consisting of 150 contestants from all over China, was divided into five categories – men's individual, women's individual, group stroke plays, and two special contests.

The competition was jointly held by the Zhejiang golf association, Daishan county government, and Zhoushan municipal bureau of culture, radio, film, television, tourism and sports under the guidance of the sport bureau of Zhejiang province.

The event is the first beach golf competition to be held in China and is quite different from traditional-style golf competitions, said Lu Mingzhai, chairman of the golf association.

Lu added that the competition demands very little on the field, making it more accessible to everyone.
