Zhoushan will launch an entrepreneurship competition in mid-October, seeking to better align entrepreneurship and innovation projects with market demand, according to the organizing committee.

The competition, which is mainly for undergraduates or graduates who have graduated within the past 10 years, will involve projects focusing on maritime economy, new materials, tourism, and ecommerce, among other industries in line with Zhoushan's developmental needs.

The competition will consist of a news conference, two preliminary rounds in Beijing and Wuhan, and a final in Zhoushan. The news conference will be held in mid-October, the preliminary rounds in November, and the final in December.

Each preliminary round will have one first prize, two second prizes and three third prizes. Winners will receive award certificates from the organizing committee.

The final will have one gold medal, two silver medals, three bronze medals, and six honorable mentions. Any winner that decides to stay in Zhoushan will receive up to 300,000 yuan ($42,280) in start-up funds from the city's municipal government.

Winners will also be eligible to receive financial support and entrepreneurship subsidies. Enterprises formed by winners can apply for up to 600,000 yuan in loans.
