Updated : 2019-10-09 (chinadaily.com.cn)

The total container volume of sea-rail combined transport in Ningbo-Zhoushan Port reached 603,000 twenty-foot equivalent units by the end of September, 38.79 percent higher year-on-year.

Sea-rail combined transport refers to a type of intermodal transport that allows goods to be delivered by rail and sea during the same trip, which can enhance efficiency, reduce costs and ensure safety, said experts.

The port, which is under the jurisdiction of Ningbo and Zhoushan, has grown to be China's busiest port since it was established in 2015.

So far, the port now has 16 sea-rail combined transport routes, covering 49 cities in 15 provinces in China, said local authorities.

In addition, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has stepped up efforts to upgrade its infrastructure, including storage yards, so as to meet the increasing demand brought by the growing container volume of sea-rail combined transport. It has also been dedicated to improving the efficiency of related departments and institutions.
