Over 2,300 ships in Zhoushan set sail on the East China Sea on Sept 16, the day that the city's fishing moratorium ended.

In view of the potential safety risks, the Zhoushan maritime safety administration has enhanced its supervision and service capabilities and made diligent efforts to ensure the safety of ships and fishermen, said local authorities.

The administration released navigation safety information, including the departure time of ships and the dates of flood seasons, to fishing companies and ships. It also sent staff members to patrol important sea areas, maintain order and prepare for emergency situations.

In addition, the Zhoushan maritime safety administration monitored the arrival and departure of commercial fishing vessels with the help of supervision systems and broadcasted navigation safety information, said officials.
