The 20th convenience service station for medicines in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, opened on Aug 15 on a small island in Shengsi county. Officials said people can now place an order with the station and pick up the medicines they need in about two days.

The convenience service stations are part of a range of projects designed to improve the livlihoods of residents that are being rolled out by the Zhejiang provincial government.

They have been installed according to the location of the islands, the medication requirements of locals and other factors, said Zhang Lei, an official from the Market Supervision Administration of Zhoushan.

By Aug 15, the stations, which can serve for more than 40,000 people in their surrounding areas, had provided convenient services over 2,900 times and delivered medicine 225 times, officials said.

Zhoushan has been improving its convenience services stations recently. The city's Dinghai district has installed a station at docks on the islands in order to ensure the convenience and safety of medicine deliveries.

A convenience service station in the district can even provide door-to-door deliveries to senior residents in need.

In addition, the city is exploring new modes to make further improvements to the convenience service for medicine deliveries. For example, currently being examined is the idea to locate delivery stations in pharmacies, or to set up medicine vending machines.
