Me, at Ma'ao

Sitting on the edge of the longest river in Asia – The Yangtze River, is the Zhoushan Island. Located on the coastal area, east of Zhejiang province, this picturesque city is a beautiful world many are yet to discover, a wonderful treasure land yet to be utilized to its full potential. I want to share with you my story, my Zhoushan story!

I have only been in Zhoushan for no more than eight (8) months, but it feels like I’ve been here my entire life. This place feels like another home away from mine, and I'm sure to convince anyone that this is the best place to be. I’d like to start off by talking about how awesome the weather is, with the winter less chill and the summer less hot compared to other regions in the country. I must say that everything is in moderation.

The next thing I'd like to talk about is the hospitality and the warmth of the locals. As a black foreign girl, I get the attention similar to that of a celebrity and I absolutely love it! I get pleasant stares, when I walk past some folks. I could hear silent whispers directed towards and about me, sometimes the bold ones ask for my picture, which I always gladly oblige. On very rare occasions some of them go as far as touching my hair, which I really don't mind, and afterwards they'll most certainly ask me questions about it in Chinese, for which I always say "ting bu dong!"  (I don't understand).
