Zhoushan Port's monthly cargo throughput in June was 59.09 million metric tons, up 21.49 percent year-on-year, the highest since it opened.

The cargo throughput of the port reached 265 million tons in the first half of 2019, a year-on-year increase of 2.98 percent, hitting the port's target for the first six months.

The growth of the cargo throughput was achieved through the rapid development of the oil business in China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone, as well as the resumption of iron ore production, which is a crucial commodity for Zhoushan Port, local officials said.

Zhoushan Port has been promoting the use of its docks in order to drive its own development, said a spokesman of the port.

It is expected that the port's business volume will continue to increase in the second half of the year, and it will likely reach its annual target of 530 million tons for cargo throughput, added the spokesman.

The Zhoushan Port Co Ltd, established in 2007, operates as a subsidiary of Ningbo Zhoushan Port Co Ltd, which was founded after the merger between the Ningbo Port Co Ltd and Zhoushan Port Co Ltd in 2015.
