A total of 192 individuals and 98 groups of civil servants were recently conferred with the titles of civil servants (groups) "who the people deem satisfactory".

Yang Yubin, Party chief of Huaniao township in Shengsi county, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang Province, is one of them.

Yang was honored for his great efforts in working with local villagers and building Huaniao island into a popular tourist site. He was also selected as one of the five representatives to attend the press conference held in Beijing.

"I'm just an ordinary civil servant who has done some ordinary things. I thank our country and Party for giving me such a great honor. It shall belong to every grassroots civil servant," said Yang.

The title, the highest honor for China's civil servants, was created to encourage the country's civil servants to better serve the public and learn from honored role models.

"We grassroots officials on islands often have to face more hardships than others due to bad weather and long periods of separation from our families as we have to work on the sea. But we never give up because we shoulder responsibility for the local people," said Yang.

Yang added he will continue to serve people heart and soul and improve Huaniao island in all respects.

The awards ceremony, this year held for the ninth time, was co-organized by the Organization Department and the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. It was first held in 1996 and last held in 2013.
