Putuo district in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, recently released a plan to promote the development of green agriculture as a way to drive its rural revitalization.

Green agriculture involves the production of healthy, nutritious, organic and pollution-free food.

"Green agriculture is the future trend of agricultural development," said a spokesman from the department of agriculture and rural affairs in Putuo district.

According to the plan, the district will prioritize green agriculture in the construction of its eco-civilization over the next two years. It will promote green food production, improve resource utilization efficiency, and protect agricultural environment.

It strives to develop a green agriculture system that both satisfies the capacity of resources and the environment and fits in with the lifestyle of locals by 2020.

Specifically, the district will reconstruct its agricultural industry, build six environmentally-friendly tea, vegetable and fruit gardens, introduce and cultivate more green agricultural products, and reform agricultural production to see at least 10 family farms to be selected as provincial model farms.

Green agriculture cannot exist without a clean environment. The district will strengthen regulation on pollution created by livestock breeding and promote ecological breeding technologies.

In addition, the district will establish a tracing system to track the production and operation of local agriculture to ensure no major safety accidents related to agricultural products.
