The awards ceremony of the sixth "Top 10 Outstanding Youths" of Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, was recently held in the city's Dinghai district, an activity in commemoration of the centenary of the May Fourth Movement.
The movement, launched by young Chinese intellectuals in 1919, drew participation by people from all walks of life and was a great patriotic and revolutionary campaign resolutely fighting against imperialism and feudalism.
Among the ten young people awarded, some are new residents who have contributed a lot to the development of the city.
Wang Bin from Dengzhou, Henan province, for example, originally worked in South China's Hainan province. He moved to Zhoushan three years ago and worked with the ENN Zhoushan Liquefied Natural Gas Import Terminal.
Wang innovated the terminal's production model and set a new record for using the shortest time in handling the first vessel arriving at the terminal, compared with other domestic LNG terminals.
Another notable young man was Gong Yanqiang, deputy director in a local cable engineering company, who has participated in more than 30 cable engineering projects, laying over 1,000 kilometers.
Also awarded was Qiu Kejie, who has devoted himself to helping leftover children and children from poor families.
A special award was given to the crew of the Chinese naval hospital ship Peace Ark.
The ship, with its homeport in Zhoushan, has fulfilled seven humanitarian missions and several joint military exercises with other countries, traveling 230,000 nautical miles and providing medical care for 230,000 people in 43 countries and regions.
Dubbed the "envoy of brightness sent by God" by overseas people, the ship has made significant contributions in promoting China's naval image and military diplomacy.
