A Burmese sailor who was struck by a sudden case of acute appendicitis was saved thanks to immediate assistance from local police in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, local media reported on April 17.
The sailor worked on a foreign vessel in the city's Yangshan International Deep-water Port. He was struck by a sudden bout of acute appendicitis early in the morning of April 14.
Upon receiving the emergency call, local police immediately contacted the related shipping agency for details and ordered a rescue boat and ambulance to the scene.
If not for the efficient response, the patient's life would have been at risk, said the doctor on the ambulance after a careful examination of the sailor.
The sailor was later sent to Shanghai No 6 People's Hospital for treatment and is now in stable condition.
