More than 40 ancient Chinese clothing fans from home and abroad gathered in Dongsha, an ancient fishing town in Daishan county, Zhoushan city, on April 7 to greet the second Chinese National Costume Day.
They made green rice balls of glutinous rice mixed with pounded mugwort, mailed words to beloved friends, and played the Touhu game, an ancient game of throwing arrows at a spout of liquor vase, during which they briefed tourists and local residents on some knowledge about ancient Chinese clothing.
The third day of the third lunar month was identified as the Chinese National Costume Day by the Central Committee of the Communist Young League in 2018, which falls on April 7 this year.
As early as the late Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC), Chinese people started treating the day as Shangsi Festival, or Girls' Day when ancient Chinese took a bath in the river and went for a picnic by the river.
