Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province was recently honored by the provincial government as a safe city, the 14th consecutive year that the city has won the honor, according to the awards conference held in Hangzhou on March 29.

The city was also honored as an outstanding city in Zhejiang owing to its overall urban management. Putuo and Dinghai districts in the city, as well as Daishan and Shengsi counties, were honored as safe areas.

Zhoushan has been committed to developing itself into the safest city in China in recent years by focusing on key social problems and strengthening coordination between different departments. It has been able to maintain extraordinary social stability and harmony for many years.

Statistics show that public satisfaction towards the city's safety conditions hit 97.64 percent last year, ranking second in the province.

Its public security remained strong last year, with crime dropping by 10.1 percent compared with a year earlier.

In addition, the total number of annual work safety accidents and casualties in the city has remained stable since it was first honored as a safe city 14 years ago.
