The Zhoushan Islands Marathon, the biggest marathon event in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province was recently honored by the Zhejiang Marathons and Running Association as one of the top five provincial marathon brands in 2018, local media reported.

It is the second consecutive year that the marathon has won the honor.

With a history of four years, the Zhoushan Islands Marathon has become the most popular marathon event in the city, with runners from far and wide coming to run the race and experience the unique island scenery and marine culture of Zhoushan.

Last year's event on Nov 18 attracted more than 12,000 participants, 71.3 percent of whom were from outside the city.

More than 20 media platforms broadcast the event, with the total broadcast time reaching 4,830 minutes, and the number of viewers reaching 11.47 million. 

The event has also boosted the local tourism and promoted the reputation of Zhoushan.

Statistics show that during last year's marathon event, Putuo district received a total of 75,350 visitors, generating tourism revenue of 110 million yuan ($16.37 million).
