Zhoushan's women and children development is leading other places in Zhejiang province, according to a report on Zhejiang's Women Development Index (WDI) and Kids Development Index (KDI) recently released by the provincial working committee on children and women and the provincial bureau of statistics.

The city maintains third position in the WDI and first position in the KDI in the report.

Specifically, 13 indicators of the city rank first, such as those in terms of the number of maternal and child healthcare providers per thousand people, the proportion of women in the village committee, and the low death rate of infants and children aged 5 or below, and 26 indicators rank in the top three in the province.

The result can be attributed to the city's vigorous efforts in addressing women's and children's utmost needs in recent years.

It has implemented a three-year action plan to encourage women to start tourism businesses, provided non-profit day-care services for children after school and established an online hospital, all helping improve the city's public service system for women and children.

The city has conducted law enforcement inspections against domestic violence, established a diversified mechanism to solve family disputes, and set up a special fund to help women and children in need, with more than 20,000 women and children receiving help every year.

In addition, the city put the establishment of standardized baby care rooms on the government's agenda in 2018 and has so far built 55 such rooms.
