With 43 local firms named in the 2018 National High-Tech Companies list recently published by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province now boasts 140 national high-tech companies that play a key role in boosting the local economy.

The accreditation of national high-tech companies is part of China's efforts to support and encourage the development of its high-tech industries, as well as improving their industrial structure and economic competitiveness.

The honor will help enhance a company's corporate image, technology research and application, and intellectual property right protection.

High-tech companies enjoy not only a reduction of tax from 25 percent to 15 percent, but also bigger advantages in bidding, financing and listing, according to the department of science and technology of Zhoushan.

"With the honor of being a national high-tech company, we can attract more high-tech talents and make more contributions to the development of Zhoushan Archipelago New Area," said Song Wendong, president of Sailaite, a marine biotechnology company in Zhoushan.

The city has been devoted to strengthening local high-tech industries in recent years to boost its economy. It reduced the tax burden of high-tech companies by more than 100 million yuan ($14.91 million) last year.
