With tourism as one of its top four emerging industries, Putuo has introduced tourist investment worth more than 45 billion yuan ($6.71 billion) over the past two years, including four tourist projects worth five billion yuan and two worth three billion yuan. 

It has been pushing forward the integration of culture, sports and tourism, with many activities and matches held for the purpose, such as the International Islands Tourism Expo, the East China Sea Music Festival and the Zhoushan Islands Marathon.

In addition, Putuo has been improving its public services and infrastructure to cater to the needs of tourists, including the provision of tourist toilets, tourist guiding systems, sightseeing buses and wifi. 

It has also applied big data and smart technologies to make its tourist services go digital, such as the establishment of a tourist data monitoring platform, the launch of an audio guide system, a smart map and a mobile application for tourists to make immediate reservations for homestays, dining and scenic spot tickets.
