The "big health" industry has been gaining momentum in Putuo district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, thanks to the district's vigorous efforts to make the industry one of its top priorities in recent years. 

"Big health" is a new concept of healthcare emphasizing the delivery of a full suite of health services that cover the entire care continuum, with a focus on health management and disease prevention. 

The district has established an international health industry center, a big health industrial park and a marine ecology innovation valley to serve as development platforms for its health industry, and has so far introduced 45 related companies and more than 150 high-caliber professionals.

"We've chosen Putuo for its preferential policies and quality services, and we believe our company will help boost the development of the district's big health industry," said Chen Jie, an executive from a biotech company in the international health industry center of Putuo.

Putuo has set up a special work team to provide overall services such as well-appointed offices and financing channels for companies to encourage them to settle in the district. 

It also gained the support of the provincial government last year to build itself into an international pilot district of medical tourism, a fast-growing emerging industry that enables tourists to enjoy healthcare services while on a vacation.

Currently, the district is developing industrial chains of cell technology, gene detection, cosmetic medicine and marine biopharmacy. It will next push forward innovations in cell therapy, modern health management and other high-end health industries to make "big health" one of its pillar industries.
