Daishan county and Shengsi county in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province were recently honored as model counties in Zhejiang for their achievements in handling rural domestic refuse in 2018, local media reported.

Daishan county invested around 8.5 million yuan ($1.26 million) in rural domestic refuse classification and disposal in its 54 villages last year, and built a garbage disposal center in Qushan town, covering 88.5 percent of the household waste in these villages.

Shengsi county started a three-month action plan in March 2018 to improve its overall environment and cleared 2,300 metric tons of garbage during the period. It also invested 20 million yuan in urban and rural domestic refuse classification and disposal.
