Putuo district in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province recently launched a special vessel in its Shenjiamen Fishing Port to collect floating trash and oil slick from the sea, local media reported.

The first of its kind in Zhejiang province, Pu Yu Gang Huan 1 is 25.81 meters long, 7.57 meters wide and 9.93 meters tall.

It can automatically collect floating trash and oil slick from the sea, and has a capacity of nearly 5 metric tons.

In addition, it is equipped with a water cannon with a range of 100 meters to provide fire-fighting emergency rescue for ships that catch fire near the fishing port.

The launch of the vessel is the latest step in the district's efforts to improve the ocean environment.

The district launched a two-year action plan in 2016 to renovate the coastal environment and water quality, which won the support of the national government and was granted with 300 million yuan ($44.49 million) of subsidies.
