The designated port for imported fruits in Zhejiang-Taiwan Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone recently commenced operations in Putuo district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, with the first batch of imported fruits from Taiwan displayed in the Putuo International Center for Imported Goods on Jan 12.

These fruits, 80 metric tons in total, include pineapples and oranges. They were sent from Kaohsiung, Taiwan on Jan 4 and arrived at the zone on Jan 7, before being sold in local areas and neighboring cities such as Jiaxing, Hangzhou and Ningbo.

Some of them were displayed at the 2019 Taiwan Fruit Festival held at the Putuo International Center for Imported Goods on Jan 12 and 13, enabling local residents to have a taste and buy a few.

The construction of the Zhejiang-Taiwan Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone is an important part of the city's efforts in building itself into an international agricultural product processing and trade center. It entered operation in October 2017.

The zone focuses on importing fruits from Taiwan, and will extend its imports from ASEAN countries in the future. Its goal is to become a high-end vegetable and fruit import and distribution hub in Zhejiang province and the Yangtze River Delta region as a whole, which integrates fruit wholesale, retail, exhibition, online transaction, storage and logistics.
