A guidebook for the proper English translations of signs in passenger transport stations will soon be released in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, to standardize the city's English translations in this respect.

The guidebook, complied by the Zhoushan Communications Investment Group, covers all the possible signs in passenger services in land and water transportation, as well as the names, addresses, departments and functions of the company's all subsidiaries.

Notably, it provides nearly 400 standard translations for 14 categories of facility and warning information in passenger transport stations, including messages advocating civilized behavior from the public, such as queuing up in an orderly manner and letting the passengers off the train first.

"The book will contribute to the city's cause of developing itself into a national civilized city and also reflects the company's strong social responsibility," said a director of the company.

In addition to the book, the company will also organize volunteers to correct the inappropriate translations in transport stations and organize internal training and discussions among its subsidiaries to encourage more employees to join in such voluntary activities.
