A testing lab of a local company producing gene detection reagents for lung cancer is expected to enter operation by the end of this month in Putuo district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, in a sure sign that the district's healthcare industry is thriving. 

Since it made the "big health" industry a top priority in 2015, Putuo has been unswervingly strengthening its healthcare sector, with many platforms established for this aspect, such as a "big health" industrial park, an international health industry center and an innovation valley for marine biomedicine, attracting 43 quality companies in healthcare and 153 high-profile healthcare professionals to settle. 

"Big health" is a new concept of healthcare emphasizing the delivery of a full suite of health services that cover the entire care continuum, with a focus on health management and disease prevention.

The "big health" industrial park, or Health Park, in Donggang Street, starting operation one and a half years ago, is the first cluster zone for healthcare companies in Zhoushan, and has introduced 12 such companies to date, along with many advanced healthcare products such as internet-connected medical equipment and elderly healthcare devices. 

The International Health Industry Center in Donggang Street has introduced 18 healthcare companies to date, with the total investment of projects exceeding 1 billion yuan ($145 million).

The Marine Ecology Innovation Valley for developing marine biomedicine has been largely completed in Zhanmao Street, and has introduced several advanced marine biomedical projects. 

In addition, the district has held international healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship competitions in recent years and attracted over 800 projects to participate.
