Companies working in the fields of marine biotechnology and marine electronic information in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province have been able to conduct R&D more conveniently in recent years thanks to a cooperative platform formed among the city's institutions of higher learning, companies and the government.

The marine industry is the most dominant one in Zhoushan, especially the marine biotechnology and marine electronic information industries, with more than 860 such companies having settled in the city to date.

However, challenges still exist in the industry due to the insufficient sharing of talents, equipment and technologies among all parties concerned.

The platform works by integrating all kinds of marine talents, research institutes and innovation parks to share the resources and technologies and thus facilitates the R&D of marine-technology-focused companies.

Zhejiang Jisuhexin Science and Technology Co, a local chip maker, recently finished running a test for its integrated chip in Zhoushan within half a day.

"It is very convenient for us to run a test here in Zhoushan, as it used to take us half a month to do so in Shanghai, which entails much energy and cost," said Liu Dongdong, vice general manager of the company.

In addition, with the help of the platform, the team led by Liu in the company was named one of the leading innovative teams in Zhejiang province.

The platform has provided companies with testing services for over 12,000 times and technology consulting services over 500 times to date, and has helped develop 57 new products and solved 88 technical problems for them.

To guarantee the smooth running of the platform, the city has been devoted to attracting high-profile marine talents in recent years, and has gathered nearly 50 domestic and foreign experts in the fields of marine biotechnology and marine electronic information.
